EYES WIDE SHUT (1999) 18 ▲
Stanley Kubrick died before his erotic drama with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman (right) came out and tanked. But after Metoo, it can be seen as a prescient story of wealthy men

FRANKIE AND JOHNNY (1991) 15 ◆
Garry Marshall’s bittersweet love story was a hit, but critics reckoned Michelle Pfeiffer was miscast. She gives a very sensitive, nuanced performance as waitress Frankie (left), wary of men after being abused, who’s wooed by her colleague Johnny (Al Pacino), fresh out of jail.

CASINO (1995) 18 ▲
Martin Scorsese’s movie was unfairly seen as a rip-off of his 1990 classic Goodfellas. Yes, he also cast Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci and used a voiceover to tell a story of organised crime, but Casino has one great asset that Goodfellas conspicuously lacks – Sharon Stone (below with De Niro) on top, top form as a high-class call girl.

This tale of a washed-up boxer trying to make a comeback really engaged me. Johnny Harris doesn’t just play the part, he inhabits it. Ray Winstone also appears.
