This intriguing one-off film looks at recently declassified documents about the Queen’s unwitting involvement in a plot hatched by MI6 and the CIA. The year is 1953 and, with Elizabeth II only a year into her reign, the agencies have a plot to topple Iran’s Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh.

TUTANKHAMUN IN COLOUR

The colourised footage of the tomb’s discovery certainly brings the story to life in this documentary. What really puts it over the top, though, is the sheer knowledge of Oxford’s Elizabeth Frood, who presents it. And the cherry on the top is the insight from the current Countess of Carnarvon about the Fifth Earl, who bankrolled the enterprise.

HHHH Sheridan Smith plays the music-hall singer turned Broadway star in a Manchester recording of the West End production during its 2017 tour. Fanny Brice is pure show business, and Smith is pitch-perfect in the role.
