ALAN BENNETT’S TALKING HEADS

8.45PM, 9.30PM BBC1 ★★★★

Both tonight’s monologues involve slow reveals about the reality of their characters’ lives, and were originally recorded by Julie Walters and David Haig. Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer takes the role of a hopeful, deluded and pretentious actress who desperately wants to be seen as a professional. How much does she really understand about her life? There’s a real ambiguity to that, and it’s interesting to study Comer’s face for clues. Then, Lucian Msamati (right) stars in Playing Sandwiches, which goes to a much more disturbing place.

WIMBLEDON REWIND

1.30PM, 8PM, BBC2 ★★★★ The BBC is taking a ‘greatest hits’ approach to replacing the hole left in the schedules by Wimbledon. So, every day this week, you can find a classic match at 1.30pm and a ‘best of’ hosted by Sue Barker at 8pm. Today’s afternoon blast from the past is the incredible 2008 men’s final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

EASTENDERS: SECRETS FROM THE SQUARE

8PM, BBC1 ★★★

When Eastenders finished on June 16, Ian and Sharon had snatched control of the Vic from right under Phil’s nose. It was a dynamite ‘doof doof’ and here, Adam Woodyatt and Letitia Dean talk about what might happen when the soap returns, and look back on their long history on the show.

ITALY’S FRONTLINE: A DOCTOR’S DIARY
