DOWNTON ABBEY

One of British TV’S biggest critical and commercial successes of recent years – at home and abroad – here’s a welcome repeat for the sixth and final series of this beautifully appointed period drama. The Crawley family and their (mostly) loyal staff have weathered challenges over the years – from the loss of the Earldom’s heir in the very first episode, through the First World War and a series of births, deaths and marriages. This series begins in 1925, a time when the very notion of grand estates such as Downton is coming under threat.

Autumn has arrived in the woodland where Jimmy Doherty has pitched his tree house, and the forest is a forager’s paradise, bursting with fruit and nuts for supper. Jimmy gets up close to a magnificent kestrel, sees a rare long-eared bat, makes ink from oak apples and meets a man who says he can talk to owls.
