PICK OF THE DAY
ANTHONY
8.30PM, BBC1 ★★★★ Teenager Anthony Walker was murdered in a racist attack in July 2005, but instead of concentrating on his death, the Bafta-winning writer Jimmy Mcgovern imagines the life he could have gone on to lead – the jobs he would have, the friends he would dance and get drunk with, and the woman he would marry. The second half takes a darker turn, though, as the focus turns to the night of Anthony’s tragic death. Toheeb Jimoh (right) is heartbreaking as Anthony, while Rakie Ayola gives a powerful performance as his grieving mum, Gee.
MURDER, MYSTERY AND MY FAMILY
10AM, BBC1 ★★★ Back for a fourth series come leading criminal barristers Sasha Wass and Jeremy Dein, who will be re-examining more historic murder cases that may have been miscarriages of justice. Can they provide answers for the families of the convicted – and maybe even help to clear their relatives’ names?
ONCE UPON A TIME IN IRAQ
9PM, BBC2 ★★★★ The infamous second battle of Fallujah of 2004 is told by eyewitness accounts from journalists, soldiers and civilians, together with unique archive footage of the battle itself. Most affecting is the testimony of Nidhal Abed, whose trip to the doctors with her sick two-year-old son took a devastating turn.
LONG LOST FAMILY SPECIAL: BORN WITHOUT TRACE
9PM, ITV ★★★★ Foundlings are people abandoned as babies, who have had no way of unlocking the secrets of their past – until Davina Mccall and Nicky Campbell came along. Here, the pair catch up with three of the foundlings they helped to reunite with their families two years ago. MIKE MULVIHILL
