THE CURIOUS LIFE AND DEATH OF…

-

★★★ Medical historian Lindsey Fitzharris’s (left) past fascinations have included books bound in human skin. For this new investigative series, she teams up with a bemused-looking former Scotland Yard detective, and their first case is Lizzie Borden. (Freeview 57, Freesat 175, Sky 171, Virgin 276)

RESTORATION WORKSHOP

8PM, YESTERDAY ★★★

Gary Wallis’s latest find is a huge, sun-bleached piece of driftwood that he rescued from a friend’s house. The antiques dealer plans to turn it into a garden seat, and that’s not the limit of his ambitions tonight – Gary (left) is also after a vintage motorbike to work on.

MISS MARPLE

8PM, DRAMA ★★★★★

This first of the Joan Hickson Miss Marples (left) – The Body In The Library – was originally shown over Christmas in 1984, and it’s one of the best the BBC made. You know you’re in safe hands from the opening scene, and the very human (and funny) way the body is discovered.

MIDSOMER MURDERS

8PM, ITV3 ★★★★

DCI Barnaby and DS Winter (Neil Dudgeon and Nick Hendrix) are on the case when a controversial talk show host is murdered on her wedding day. Look out for glamorous Kelly Brook (left, with Dudgeon and Hendrix) as the doomed bride, whose big day doesn’t go to plan.

DOG TALES: THE MAKING OF MAN’S BEST FRIEND

9PM, BBC4 ★★★★

Dogs have been at our side longer than any other animal in history, and this fascinating documentary examines how that bond was formed. This show unravels the latest scientific secrets to explain what makes a dog, well, a dog. Next week – it’s cats.

PRODIGAL SON

9PM, SKY ONE ★★★

Malcolm, the son of a serial killer, has a gleam in his eye in this new episode of a US show that stays just the right side of bonkers. His memories of an old trip with dad (a constantly shifting Michael Sheen, left) lead him to a lot of dead bodies, and a productive team-up with his reporter sister.

Could we get that back again? Jheni Osman looks at some of the temporary measures brought in to get people walking and cycling in cities.

She wonders if these measures could be made more permanent, and if cleaner air might be the silver lining to the Covid cloud.
