ELEPHANT HOSPITAL

9PM, CH5 ★★★★

In this second and final part of the thoroughly enjoyable documentary, we see Dr Paul O’donoghue (right) as he helps to care for some jumbo patients. But this week, there is an emergency as three elephants from a sanctuary come down with colic – this can cause fatal bloating, so time is really of the essence. Coming along, too, is a lovely four-month-old baby, who can’t leave her mum’s side. Elsewhere, three times a year, the staff perform an elephant MOT on the 111 big beasts in their care – and it’s just as difficult as you might imagine.

GREAT CONTINENTAL RAILWAY JOURNEYS

8PM, BBC2 ★★★★

In this final part of Michael Portillo’s train adventure, he experiences chills and thrills as he travels from Stockholm to the Arctic Circle. He takes a dip in one of Sweden’s 96,000 lakes, checks out transport of the future and visits a remote climate research station. All in a fetching bright blue blazer.
