SAVING LIVES AT SEA

8PM, BBC2 ★★★★

The return of the insightful series following life at some of the 238 RNLI stations across the UK. Every day, a small army of 5,000 unpaid volunteers put their lives on the line to help people in trouble on the water, from stranded fishermen to kids swept out to sea. This week, in Swanage, Bryan Jones (right) and his fellow lifeboat crew members deal with all sorts of calls, including rushing to save two paddleboarders who risk being swept into shipping lanes. Also, in Blackpool, one volunteer’s wedding is sadly interrupted by an urgent call.

THE REAL ‘DES’: THE DENNIS NILSEN STORY

9PM, ITV ★★★★

If you watched ITV’S chilling series Des this week, then prepare to meet the real killer in this fascinating and equally sinister one-off, narrated by Des star David Tennant. Nilsen’s personality is explored using expert insight, archive footage and clips from his now infamous 1992 interview.
