ANTON FERDINAND: FOOTBALL, RACISM & ME

9PM, BBC1 ★★★★

Anton Ferdinand (right) has now retired from professional football, and works with elder brother Rio to mentor young players – and he’s certainly got wisdom to pass on when it comes to being in the public eye. Here, the ex-west Ham and QPR player reflects on the allegation that John Terry racially abused him during a match, how the investigation that followed made him feel like a victim, and on the abuse he suffered on social media. Hopefully, talking about it in this film will help to put a stop to it, for Anton and others.

KIRSTIE’S HANDMADE CHRISTMAS

5PM, CH4 ★★★

In a holly jolly new mix of tips and contests, Kirstie Allsopp sets a tree decorating challenge for four crafters. Which of their handmade efforts will scoop the trophy? Kirstie also demonstrates a possible use for leftover fabric, while Phil Spencer drops by to whip up a Christmas chutney.

DEATH WISH (2018)15u

10PM, CH5 ★★

Bruce Willis stars in this ill-advised remake of Michael Winner’s harsh vigilante thriller from 1974. Willis looks a lot smoother than original star Charles Bronson, but this film is rougher around the edges. Willis is Paul Kersey, an ER doctor who seeks revenge after his wife is brutally killed.

HOSPITAL

9PM, BBC2 ★★★★

This week, we move from the specialist departments to the impact of coronavirus on A&E. Every patient that moves from the emergency department into the wards needs a Covid19 test, and limited capacity – not to mention alarming issues with accuracy – only adds to a logistical headache with very human consequences.

A VERY ROYAL CHRISTMAS

9PM, CH4 ★★★

So, what would the royals be getting up to this Christmas, virus notwithstanding? This new dive into the archive hears from ‘royal insiders’ about joke gifts exchanged and traditions observed – and how Monopoly has been banned for getting ‘too vicious’. Now, if only they had footage of that… ROBIN WIGGS

Film-maker Xavier Alford meets other people who have Guillain-barre syndrome.

11.15 Robert Burns – The People’s Poet

9.30 American Dad! Steve’s life is turned

LOVE BITES

6PM, ITV2 ★★★ Scarlett Moffatt (left) hosts a frothy new mix of cooking and dating, in which three hopefuls have the same box of ingredients to make a threecourse meal for the object of their affections – who will then take one of them on a date. Our lovelorn chefs go in without recipes, so let’s hope no one gets food poisoning.

LEONARDO: THE WORKS

7PM, SKY ARTS ★★★★

This new, two-part drift between Da Vinci’s works (such as Ginevra de’ Benci, left) in various galleries is slow – but then, it’s nice to have the time to appreciate his paintings as you would in a gallery. We move from piece to piece, with expert insight into his art and life in between.

THE UNDOING

9PM, SKY ATLANTIC ★★★★

We’ve certainly been led round the houses over the course of HBO’S sixpart mystery, but it’s the finale tonight. So, whodunnit? Was it Jonathan? His wife, Grace, whose mysterious walk remains unexplained? Or even her dad (Donald Sutherland, left)? Heck, why not one of the lawyers? Find out here.

THE DOG RESCUERS WITH ALAN DAVIES

9PM, 5SELECT ★★★ There are animals in need at the Harmsworth Animal Hospital and, at the start of a new series, Alan Davies (left) is ready to lend a hand. Here, he helps out when a fight between two Staffordshire bull terrier sisters leaves one in need of treatment. (Freeview 55, Freesat 133, Sky 153, Virgin 152)

I’M SORRY I HAVEN’T A CLUE

6.30PM, RADIO 4 HHHHH The great Tim Brooke-taylor died in April from Covid-19. Not long before he died, he recorded two episodes for a new series of this much-loved comedy panel show. As a mark of respect, the series was put on hold – but this evening, we get to hear the first of those episodes, which has Tim paired with Rachel Parris as they pit their wit and wits against Tony Hawks and Marcus Brigstocke.
