10.15AM, RADIO 3 HHHH Bright, sparkly live music comes dancing across Europe to get the New Year off to a fresh, brisk start. The musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic will have their eyes fixed on the baton of conductor Riccardo Muti, ready to launch into a concert of marches, polkas and waltzes. They’ll be in Vienna’s splendid Musikverein and playing some oddly named works, including the fast polka Tempestuous In Love And Dance.

7.15PM, RADIO 4 HHHH Kenton and Jolene are at The Bull with a stack of Archers-themed quiz questions. They will be getting Radio 4 broadcasters
Jane Garvey, Martha Kearney and Chris Aldridge to compete with a team of three keen Archers fans in a test of their Ambridge knowledge in this programme marking the 70th anniversary of the everyday story of country folk.

The comedy actress Diane Morgan, who picked up Dowding’s book by chance during the first lockdown – and has since become fascinated by his life – tells Dowding’s story, and explains why he should be honoured as a hero.
