PICK OF THE DAY

-

MCDONALD & DODDS

8PM, ITV ★★★★

The razor-sharp mind of DS Dodds (Jason Watkins) is really put to the test this week – though the crime is not, as he first thought, the work of a satanic serial killer. French rugby star Dominique Aubert, who had recently signed to the club owned by West Country wide boy Jimmy Daly (John Thomson, right), is found dead inside Brunel’s famous Box Tunnel. The night before, Dominique had been partying with Jimmy and a group of women enjoying a wild weekend, one of whom was especially happy to be playing away – with Dominique.

A SERVICE OF CELEBRATION FOR COMMONWEALTH DAY

5PM, BBC1 ★★★★

The Commonwealth Day service, which was meant to be held tomorrow, has been cancelled due to the pandemic, so the Queen will share her annual address as part of this programme from Westminster Abbey. There will also be music from Nitin Sawhney and Lianne La Havas.

ATTENBOROUGH’S LIFE IN COLOUR

7PM, BBC1 ★★★★

David Attenborough delivers another vivid shot of colour from the natural world, and shows that it’s not always about being the centre of attention. Camouflage and contrast are also important – from the crab spider’s ability to reflect ultraviolet light to lure its prey, to the zebra’s deceptively startling stripes.

FUNNY FESTIVAL LIVE

9.45PM, BBC2 ★★★★

There’s plenty to tickle the funny bones all this week, with comedy throughout the BBC2 schedules. This new stand-up series, showing nightly until Thursday, was recorded before a virtual audience, and features established names such as Jason Manford and Jo Brand, as well as new talent. SA
