There’s some strong evidence that insufficie­nt vitamin D could have contribute­d to the UK’S high Covid death toll. Long, dark winters and many hours spent indoors may account for a deficiency of the ‘sunshine vitamin’ that’s needed to keep bones and muscles strong and boost our immune systems. In Finland, milk is enriched with vitamin D as a matter of course, eliminatin­g almost all deficiency there. This programme looks at the pros and cons of making vitamin D fortificat­ion mandatory.

Antonin Dvorak composed his Cello Concerto in America in 1894 in a fever of inspiratio­n, surrounded by uneaten meals. He was homesick, and found solace by losing himself in his music. This performanc­e, from Glasgow’s City Halls, has Sheku Kanneh-mason and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra giving a moving, pared-down performanc­e of the concerto.
