Long, dark winters and many hours spent indoors may account for a deficiency of the ‘sunshine vitamin’ that’s needed to keep bones and muscles strong and boost our immune systems. In Finland, milk is enriched with vitamin D as a matter of course, eliminating almost all deficiency there. This programme looks at the pros and cons of making vitamin D fortification mandatory.

Antonin Dvorak composed his Cello Concerto in America in 1894 in a fever of inspiration, surrounded by uneaten meals. He was homesick, and found solace by losing himself in his music. This performance, from Glasgow’s City Halls, has Sheku Kanneh-mason and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra giving a moving, pared-down performance of the concerto.
