THE PERFORMER 2.15PM, RADIO 4 ★★★

Stephen Fry delivers this twopart monologue, concluding tomorrow, set in the world of British theatre in the 1950s and 1960s. A man looks back on life in his suburban family home – a home from which his father mysteriously disappeared.

THE CLASSIC FM CONCERT 8PM, CLASSIC FM ★★★

‘Hats off, gentlemen, a genius!’ said Schumann at the premiere of Chopin’s Variations On La Ci Darem La Mano. Chopin was just 17 when he wrote the piece – and Schumann proved to be absolutely right. The work, which translates as ‘There, we will give each other our hands’, is a variation on a duet from Mozart’s Don Giovanni. John Suchet includes a recording of Chopin’s youthful work on tonight’s show.

AMERICAN PSYCHO AT 30 11PM, RADIO 4 ★★★

Bret Easton Ellis’s novel about a banker who becomes a serial killer came out in 1991. American Psycho featured violent scenes and designer names, spawning many imitations and a few parodies. Octavia Bright talks to the author, and wonders why the book struck such a nerve – and if it was a prediction of Trump’s America.
