PICK OF THE DAY
CHURCHILL: BEGINNINGS ★★★★
9PM, CH5
One of the most enduring figures of British and, indeed, world politics is seen by many as a warrior with a bulldog spirit, but what truth lies behind this image of Winston Churchill (right)? This new, sixpart series uses unseen photos and footage to reveal the real Churchill. In this first part, we go back to the beginning to see what events shaped him as a young man. From his birth into aristocracy and his relationship with his strict father to how his now controversial writing career, started to boost his income, led him into politics – it’s all very revealing.

★★★
Joining Grayson and Philippa Perry from across the pond this week is actress Jane Seymour, and she’s creating a piece on the theme of work. We go inside the studio of Michaela Yearwood-dan to explore her bright and thought-provoking art, while comedian Tom
Allen and soulful singer
Lianne La Havas also appear.
KATE HUMBLE’S COASTAL BRITAIN
8PM, CH5 ★★★ Suffolk is host to Kate’s final ramble, and it’s packed with interesting sights. She meets a beachcombing expert at Sizewell B power station, and tours the holiday phenomenon of Thorpeness. In a more mysterious locale, Kate goes to Orford Ness – once a topsecret military testing site and now a National Trust reserve.

Few people put on a show like Elton John (left), and this collection of performances and interviews from across the BBC archives makes for good viewing. Among the songs included are I’m Still Standing, Can You Feel The Love Tonight and I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues.
