James Le Mesurier was a British Army officer who served in Northern Ireland, and was an intelligence officer in the former Yugoslavia. He co-founded the organisation now known as the White Helmets, whose members face danger rescuing survivors from bombed buildings in Syria. In November of 2019, he was found dead in the street near his Istanbul home. Chloe Hadjimatheou looks at the tangle of truths and lies surrounding James’s life and death.
