PICK OF THE DAY
MAKE-UP: A GLAMOROUS HISTORY 9PM, BBC2
★★★★
Make-up may sound a frivolous subject, but this is actually a fascinating new three-part series that goes beneath the lipstick, powder and paint to show what ideas of beauty tell us about the different societies in which we have lived. Makeup artist Lisa Eldridge (right) will be exploring iconic eras of our history, starting in the Georgian period, to reveal the importance of what people put on their faces. She’ll also be bringing the looks of the day to life on the face of poor model Queenie, who admits she doesn’t usually wear make-up.
AINSLEY’S MEDITERRANEAN COOKBOOK 7.30PM, ITV
★★★
Lucky old Ainsley Harriott travels to parts of the world where we can’t visit for his vibrant new series. He begins in Corsica, where he cooks sensational seafood skewers on the Lavezzi archipelago before sampling the local olive oil on a trip to the medieval fortress town of Bonifacio.
ALL THAT GLITTERS: BRITAIN’S NEXT JEWELLERY STAR 8PM, BBC2
★★★
The seven remaining up-andcoming jewellers face another two demanding challenges: first, they must make a chain collar that everyone will want; then, a commission for a real client, Chris, who would like a bespoke sweetheart brooch for his Army officer wife, Kelly, to take on her next tour of duty.
SNACKMASTERS 9PM, CH4
