I play Michael Desiato [pictured], a New Orleans judge who becomes a criminal himself trying to protect his son from a murder charge. I felt the part eroding my soul, there was so much emotional dirt involved. At the end of every day’s filming,i’dputavery hot towel on my face, which drew out all the emotional and real toxicants from my body and I could say goodnight to the role.

I watched real judges handle their courtrooms in New Orleans. Some are like the captain of the ship, others like a referee, some feel they are on stage, and some don’t want to be heard or seen at all. I put together an amalgamation of all the personalities I witnessed to create my own version of a judge.

Looking emotionally troubled on screen was never a problem for me. I have a face that’s like a roadmap. With all the lines on my face, I conveyed a level of worry just by showing up on set.

My wife and I suffered Covid19 quite badly so I know how essential the anti-virus measures were when filming resumed at the end of lockdown. We had a Covid Protocol team who enforced the rules and kept us six feet apart. My main problem was not hearing what people were saying behind their masks. Too many rock concerts, I guess, have diminished my hearing. 5

It’s a pet gripe of mine that people in TV dramas tend to push food around their plates rather than eat it. It’s unrealistic. So when we had a big shrimp dinner in an episode I even put my shrimp into the eye-wateringly hot chilli dips and ate it all up.
