Now, here’s a novel idea, which taps into the British public’s love of a good murder mystery. Senior investigating officer Parm Sandhu and her two deputies, Simon Harding and Graham Mcmillan (right), welcome four pairs of amateur sleuths to an island where a woman has been killed. All they have to do is sift through the evidence to identify a murderer and win the £50,000 prize money.

This fictional mystery has been written by crime novelist Ian Rankin, and will push the budding detectives to the limit over the next six weeks.

Alan Titchmarsh, Frances Tophill and David Domoney transform the garden of Mel, a dementia ward manager at a Royal British Legion care home. As an extra bonus, Katie Rushworth celebrates the Armed Forces charity’s centenary by giving Mel’s workplace garden a stately home-inspired makeover.

8PM, CH4 ★★★★★ It’s Bread Week – and the remaining bakers have a lot to prove. For the Signature, they must put their own twist on a classic Italian focaccia before heading further east for a Greek-inspired Technical snack. Finally, for an ambitious artistic Showstopper, they must render decorative designs in milk bread.

The contributors are aged from 45 to 91 years old, have different types of dementia, and are at different stages. But what they and their families have in common is an uncertain future. MM
