CELEBRITY TRASH MONSTERS 9PM, CH4

★★★

Some shows are so bonkers that they defy description, and this is one of them – you have to see it to believe it.

In an effort to ram home the effect of the detritus we produce, three celebrities will wear expanding trash suits for a week. That’s right, they will become walking rubbish bags, and will be topped up each day as a reminder of just how much they throw away. Kerry Katona, Jodie Kidd and John Barnes (right) are the stars embracing this challenge, in the hope that they can improve their own wasteful habits. If this doesn’t do it, nothing will.

THE MATING GAME 6.10PM, BBC1

★★★★

This episode of the animal peep show visits the world’s jungles for more unique mating rituals. In Papua New Guinea, a Macgregor’s bowerbird has an architectural approach to finding a partner and, for the first time, we see the courtship display of the great argus pheasant. The less said about the cannibal mantis the better.

THE EARTHSHOT PRIZE 2021 8PM, BBC1

★★★★ Dermot O’leary and Clara Amfo present tonight’s ceremony, where Prince William will present the first five Earthshot Prize awards. Each winning project – which have been featured over past episodes – will receive £1 million to tackle urgent environmental challenges. Ed Sheeran and Coldplay will also perform.

THE LARKINS 8PM, ITV

★★★★

‘Nervy’ tax inspector Cedric Charlton, or Charlie for short, finds it difficult to resist the allencompassing hospitality of the Larkins and has an obvious soft spot for Mariette. But as the middle children prepare for the Straw Man pram race and Pop tries to close another deal, Charlie is being urged to dig for dirt on the Larkins’ affairs. SA
