PICK OF THE DAY

-

SHETLAND 9PM, BBC1

★★★★

A welcome return for this superior crime drama, based on the novels by Anne

Cleeves. The start of this sixth series finds DI Jimmy Perez (Douglas Henshall, right, with Alison O’donnell as Tosh) at the funeral of his mother, quoting Maya Angelou in the eulogy. But Jimmy has scant time to grieve – that afternoon he is investigating the doorstep shooting of local lawyer Alex Galbraith.

‘To know how a man died, you must first know how he lived,’ Jimmy reminds his team before they get started – and Galbraith lived a full life…

BEVERLEY AND JORDAN: DESTINATION WEDDING 8PM, ITV

★★★

Corrie star Beverley Callard and radio DJ Jordan North hit it off instantly on I’m A Celebrity last year. For this new series, Beverley invites Jordan to help her to plan the renewal of her wedding vows. As they travel together through Spain, Beverley also helps scaredycat Jordan to face his fears.

FOUR HOURS AT THE CAPITOL 9PM, BBC2

★★★★

Mike Fanone, the policeman who opens this film, doesn’t mince his words when he recalls the shocking siege of the Capitol on January 6 this year. Fanone is angry; others recall a mix of anger and fear as they describe the moment that the mob stormed the seat of American democracy.

EXTRAORDINARY EXTENSIONS 9PM, CH4

★★★★

Rapper Tinie Tempah is the unlikely but likeable host of this new property show. Tinie knows his stuff – he’s built a property empire and renovated his own London pad. He meets people who have pushed the limits of design and planning with home extensions that are both radical and beautiful.
