PICK OF THE DAY
HANDMADE: BRITAIN’S BEST WOODWORKER
8PM, CH4 ★★★★
Wood is a magnificently versatile material, and this new competition show, hosted by Mel Giedroyc, seeks to show it off in all its glory. Each week, contestants aim to impress judges Alex de Rijke, an award-winning architect, and furniture making expert Helen Welch (right, with Mel) through a series of tasks at the workshop on the ancient Glanask Estate in Wales.
In this first episode, the contestants must make the bed of their dreams in just two days, and tackle hand-carving in the surprise skills test.

Spring brings the joy of flowers starting to bloom, and now is a good time to get ahead with planting the bulbs – Carol has her usual great, step-by-step advice on the best way to do this. She also shows us the delights of growing berries at this time of year, and all the wildlife that draws in.
THE HAIRY BIKERS GO NORTH
8PM, BBC2 ★★★ The Bikers’ tour continues in Yorkshire, where they visit Leeds’s Kirkgate market before riding to Skipton to meet a family making Icelandic skyr, a dairy product. In Thirsk,
