A fine comic western, with James Garner as a rogue passing himself off as a gunman and getting himself in trouble as a result. No one is better than Garner (above) at this sort of tongue-in-cheek stuff, but his saddlehard­ened co-stars lend authentic appeal.

(1968) 15 ◆ 9PM, ITV4 ★★★★ Star and motor vehicle are in perfect harmony as the US actor Steve Mcqueen races through San Francisco in Peter Yates’s classic crime thriller. Mcqueen is the cop who drives his car up and down that city’s vertiginou­s streets in one of cinema’s most magnificen­t car chases.

★★★★ Featuring some impressive sets and costumes – you’d expect nothing less – this biopic of Jackie Kennedy stars Natalie Portman (left) as the First Lady. A week after her husband is assassinat­ed in Dallas, Jackie meets with a journalist at her home in Massachuse­tts to discuss JFK’S legacy.
