9PM, BBC2 ★★★★ Margaret Thatcher’s handbags – as symbols of the weight and might she wielded – crop up often in this new series, which explores her close bond with US President Ronald Reagan and their eight years in power together. Presented by a man who knew Mrs T well – her biographer, Charles Moore – this is a well-informed look back at two ‘determined Cold War warriors’ (right) whose friendship was first forged in 1978, before either took office, and survived the tensions of the Falklands War and beyond.

Kali is the longest-lived cheetah known to scientists at Zambia’s Liuwa Plain National Park. At the ripe old age of nine, she has three daughters to raise, but her previous litters have not fared well – only two of her 14 cubs have survived to date. Follow Kali as she teaches her youngsters to hunt before, like Kali, they go it alone.

This first episode covers his early years in Louisville, Kentucky, as he hones his skills and wins gold at the 1960 Olympic Games.
