PICK OF THE DAY
Gazza
9PM, BBC2 ★★★★ This new, two-part series looks at the career of football legend Paul Gascoigne (right), from its dizzying highs to its desperate lows. We begin in 1988 as the working-class Geordie helped to drag football out of the dark shadow of hooliganism. After his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur for a record fee, Gazza took England to the 1990 World Cup, and history (against West Germany) was made. As much as his inspirational footwork demanded attention, however, so too did his offpitch antics. Gazza was stalked mercilessly by the press, and there was growing concern about his ability to cope.
Mary Berry’s Fantastic Feasts
8PM, BBC1 ★★★★ Postponed from March 9, this episode finds Mary helping a trio of friends to brush up on their kitchen skills to prepare afternoon tea as a thank you for a very special friend. On hand to help with some finishing touches are Roman Kemp and Tom Read Wilson as Mary makes sure there’s not a soggy bottom in sight.
Secrets Of The Museum 8PM, BBC2
★★★★
Follow preparations for a new exhibition of works by Carl Faberge as 70 pieces from the royal collection – including the famous bejewelled eggs – are loaned to the V&A in London. In Dungeness, curator Kate meets a costume designer who unveiled an unusual fundraising campaign in the 2020 awards season. Continues Thursday.
Grand Designs: The Streets
9PM, CH4 ★★★★ Kevin Mccloud returns to Graven Hill, the Oxfordshire development we first saw in 2019, to follow more families making their self-build dreams come true. We also follow the birth of a similar project in Glasgow, but first, at Graven Hill, Maite and Carlos have a bold vision and a budget that doesn’t quite match. SA
