My weekend
What I’m watching… I’m loving the fourth (and final, sadly) season of Ozark on Netflix – a gripping, unpredictable drama about a family whose money troubles lead them into dark places. I’m also enjoying The Responder on BBC iplayer, with Martin Freeman as a police officer in Liverpool battling his demons.
What I’m reading… Alone In Berlin by Hans Fallada is a powerful story of bravery and defiance in wartime Germany, and Eutopia by M Wynn Thomas is a brilliant study of Welsh cultural links with Europe.
What I’m listening to… Muchas I hate to boost Alastair Campbell’s smugness, The Rest Is Politics podcast with him and Rory Stewart is pithy, perceptive and penetrating.
What I’m cooking…
Don’t be absurd!
My favourite restaurant…
A. Wong in Wilton Road in London is exceptional, regularly featuring
original new Chinese dishes. And the Beach House in Swansea’s Oxwich Bay serves excellent Welsh food. My weekend walk… I love the stroll from Faversham in Kent to the coastal village of Seasalter. My top Welsh walk is over the clifftops from Aberystwyth to Borth, overlooking Cardigan Bay – on a sunny day the views are unbeatable. It reminds me of childhood holidays.
My weekends growing up…
Saturdays were for watching Llanelli play rugby, and I looked forward to seeing my friends at Sunday School before a family lunch. My father had to drive into Glamorganshire to get his pint because Carmarthenshire had no pubs open on Sundays back then!
My perfect weekend away…
Visiting the small Welsh port of Aberaeron, where the Edwards family is from. The colourful houses lining the town square are a delight.
Recent night out… My last trip to the cinema was to see Operation Mincemeat with Colin Firth, Kelly Macdonald and Matthew Macfadyen. How it’s possible to turn a well-written book into such a turkey is a mystery.
As told to York Membery Huw Edwards is the chief anchor of BBC News At Ten.
