Get more out of life in 2013

Nip up on the stairlift

DO the stairs sometimes seem like a mountain to climb? Then a stairlift might be where to start — and these days owning one is all about what you can do, rather than what you can’t.

With a stairlift neatly installed, you can stay in your own home, get around it without having to rely on others or just nip upstairs for those glasses that you may have forgotten.

You will have more mental and physical energy if you no longer have to worry about planning your trips between floors and that will benefit you, your family and the health and well-being services.

A stairlift is actually just an appliance like a washing machine or dishwasher. We could all do the washing by hand, but appliances just help us to do it quickly and more effectively. And having a stairlift doesn’t mean that you have to use it all the time.

People often use their stairlift first thing in the morning before they have limbered up and last thing at night when they are tired. Many continue to use the stairs when they can for exercise, but safe in the knowledge that if they aren’t feeling up to it, they have help right there at hand.

Bathroom slips

THE bathroom may look innocent enough, but it’s actually where 80 per cent of falls at home happen — and getting out of the bath leads to even more injuries than getting in.

Falls can be a very serious matter, resulting in up to half of all survivors becoming more dependent on care.

To help keep the need for care at bay for as long as possible and to bring back the pleasure of bathing, why not think about a walk-in bath or easy-access shower, which will make it easier to bathe safely and without assistance?

A new bath or shower can often be fitted within a day by speciallytrained fitters who ensure there is as little disruption as possible and leave everything clean and tidy.

Safety features include low-level entry to help prevent tripping, comfy seating and slip-resistant flooring, thermostatic controls and grab bars for added stability and safety.

Relief of reclining

FOR THOSE suffering from winter aches and pains or conditions such as arthritis or poor circulation, a riser recliner chair could bring relief, making all the difference to comfort in 2013.

Dual motor recliners allow you to adjust the backrest and footplate independently to achieve the most comfortable position. And as well as being able to recline, these versatile chairs can also lift you to your feet, enabling easy access when getting in and out of your chair.

Scoot to a bargain

NOT forgetting mobility scooters, which provide a fantastic way to remain independent and get out to all the things you want to do.

At this time of year there are some amazing special offers around, making it a perfect time to think ahead to spring and the outings you’ll enjoy.

So if the subject of mobility came up over Christmas and set you thinking, why not make New Year a time when you reaffirm your approach to life and make a positive choice to help yourself get the most out of it?
