CRIME DRAMA Broadchurc­h, 9pm, ITV Encore

AHEAD of the eagerly awaited (and not yet scheduled) second series of this riveting murder mystery, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman, ITV Encore is repeating the whole of the first series. The story opens with the disappeara­nce of a child — a familiar starting point for crime drama, but the cast is superb, and the mystery is plotted with rigour and flair.

DYLAN M DERMOTT and Maggie Q investigat­e stalkers in a slick new U.S. drama with a generally pessimisti­c view of human nature. Nikita’s Maggie Q (pictured) is the best reason tot watcht h — she’sh’ a martial-arts specialist with a history of doing her own stunts, and her character isn’t afraid to add ‘the personal touch’ when nobody’s looking.

WONDERFULL­Y tongue-incheek (and only lightly festive) horror from king of the horror spoof Joe Dante. Zach Galligan is the teen given a deceptivel­y cute critter for Christmas.
