BLACKPOOL FANS HURL EGGS

- By MARTHA KELNER

FURIOUS Blackpool fans pelted the directors’ box and main reception at Bloomfield Road with a flare, a smoke bomb, fireworks and eggs during a protest against chairman Karl Oyston last night. The Seasiders were relegated on Monday after Rotherham beat Brighton and fans vented their fury at the Oyston family’s handling of the club ahead of the 1-1 draw with Reading. Dozens of supporters gathered outside the West Stand 45 minutes before kick-off and hurled eggs at the back of the directors’ boxes before a flare, smoke bomb and firework were tossed into the area in front of the main reception. Fans chanted ‘Oyston out’ and ‘We’re relegated because of your greed’. Stewards and police were present but the protests did not spill over into violence. Although they are eight points clear of the drop zone with five games left, Fulham have won just one in seven and Symons is taking nothing for granted. ‘We’re definitely not safe until it’s mathematically sure,’ he said. ‘But I can’t be greedy so I will take the point and I was pleased with the performance.’ Ross McCormack headed them in front after eight minutes, but Charlton levelled with a controversial 16th-minute strike. Morgan Fox’s cross bounced across the front of goal and Frederic Bulot swung a leg at it but could not connect. It was left for a waiting Johann
