Nigella’s back on the BBC (minus a few calories)

- By Sam Creighton TV & Radio Reporter

FOODIES rejoice – after three years in the wilderness, Nigella is back.

The celebrity chef will make a welcome return to the BBC, which announced her new show yesterday as a highlight of the year’s schedule.

But gone are the decadent comfort foods of previous years. Instead, Miss Lawson’s latest series will see her serving up a range of healthy breakfasts and light suppers in a new ‘pared-down approach’.

Called Simply Nigella, the programme, which will air on BBC2 in the autumn, is her first solo effort since splitting from Charles Saatchi, 71, and the much publicised court case against her former personal assistants Elisabetta and Francesca Grillo. It is also the first TV series she has made for the BBC since 2012.

Miss Lawson has made appearances on British screens during this period – including being a judge on Channel 4 cooking contest The Taste, alongside chefs Anthony Bourdain and Ludo Lefebvre. However, the programme was far from the ratings success to which she was accustomed. She said of her new series: ‘It’s about food that makes our life easier, that makes us feel better, more alive and less stressed.’

A BBC spokesman said: ‘Nigella’s latest BBC TV series – Simply Nigella – will introduce viewers to a new pared-down approach to cooking and eating.

‘From healthy everyday breakfasts and substantial weekend brunches to quickto-make, lighter suppers that de-stress, and “bowl food” that comforts, Simply Nigella brings us recipes that will be both a pleasure to cook and eat.’
