YOU HAVE YOUR SAY

-

EVERY week Money Mail receives hundreds of your letters and emails about our stories. Here are some of the best from our report on the huge returns promised by exotic investments:

I HAVE received telephone approaches involving investments in Brazil and one on Tenerife. My advice is to visit the site using Google Maps. Then ask a few questions on the phone, and you’ll know if they are lying.

A. S., Northamptonshire. I HAVE been offered an investment in the rubber industry. It is unregulated and I’ve been sent lots of information, but no prices yet, just a vague figure of £5,000 to £10,000.

R. G., via email. A FEW weeks ago, I was pestered several times by someone trying to sell me investments in car parking spaces.

They said the price was £20,000, but after March it would rise to £25,000. The rent paid to me net of costs would apparently be £1,600 each year.

I asked why, if it was so profitable, they would want investment from small-timers like me. The response was so they could free up capital to invest in further projects.

D. L., London. I WAS recently cold-called by a company offering me investments at an airport. Your article made me wonder if this was a scam.

C. G., via email. LIKE many, I haven’t got enough money to invest the full annual allowance in an Isa, let alone in a Norwegian forest?

F. W., London. THE Nordics are littered with cheap small cabins, so you can buy your own outright for between £20,000 and £50,000 anywhere. But you won’t be able to let it for anything more than 30 pc occupancy unless it’s close to a ski area, sea and beach, and even then you’ll pay much more.

V. S., Vaxjo, Sweden. WHAT has surprised me is the number of people sucked into these schemes. The best advice if you happen to answer these cold calls is to say: ‘No thanks. Take me off your list. Goodbye.’

A. S., Calne, Wiltshire. ALL pensioners who may be tempted to invest their pensions in unregulated investments should be very careful.

T. L., Birmingham.
