What a name for a duchess! Wills reveals he calls Kate ‘the missus’

- By David Wilkes

ONE day he will be King and rule over us all. But for the time being, it seems, there are still some things that Prince William has to run past ‘the missus’.

The royal referred to the Duchess of Cambridge by the informal term during an interview for Match Of The Day, when host Gary Lineker raised the subject of when he might take his son, Prince George, to his first football game.

William said: ‘I don’t know, I’ll have to pass that by the missus, see how I can get away with it.’ Laughing, he added: ‘At the moment, [George] being only 22 months, it’s a little bit early.’ The exchange between the prince and the former England striker was filmed as they chatted in the grounds of Kensington Palace ahead of the FA Cup Final between Aston Villa and Arsenal.

It is William’s first broadcast interview since the birth of daughter Princess Charlotte, and is due to be shown as part of BBC One’s cup final build-up tomorrow.

William, who is president of the Football Association and will present the trophy to the winners at Wembley Stadium, also told how he chose to support Aston Villa as a schoolboy because he wanted a ‘more mid- dle of the table’ team than Manchester United or Chelsea, which most of his friends supported, and one that could give him ‘the more emotional rollercoaster moments’.

Laughing, he added: ‘Looking back, that was a bad idea. I could have had an easier time.’ Asked if he would be nervous watching the final, William said: ‘Absolutely – I’m nervous now.’

Lineker also asked if the prince would encourage George to support Aston Villa. William, 32, said: ‘The responsible thing would be to say, to let him make his own mind up, but I think I might be quite biased. I’d love to go to the odd match with him.’
