Travel chaos could last another day as fog lingers

ROADS and airports could be hit by more fog chaos today, forecaster­s have warned.

Hundreds of half-term flights had to be cancelled yesterday as a blanket of fog grounded planes and brought roads to a standstill.

Issuing a yellow weather warning, the Met Office said it was expecting fog to cover east Wales as well as much of England as far north as Lancashire and Newcastle until noon today.

Motorists have been advised to take care on the roads, after visibility was reduced to just 164ft in many areas yesterday. In one devastatin­g incident, a five-yearold girl was found trapped in a car alongside the body of her father on Sunday morning after he crashed into a tree. The dan-

A temperatur­e of 22.3C (72.1F) was recorded at Trawsgoed, west Wales, on Sunday, breaking a near 70-year record for the hottest November day. Clear skies have led to plummeting overnight temperatur­es, prompting the formation of ‘radiation fog’, which occurs as the ground cools rapidly at night.

Yesterday a spokesman for Heathrow said: ‘Due to low visibility caused by heavy fog, passengers may experience disruption to their journeys tomorrow. We are very sorry for the delays.’
