Give us peace on flights

-

MY HuSbANd and I travelled from Gatwick to Paphos recently for a holiday in Cyprus. we had pre-booked seats with extra leg room because my husband is more than 6ft tall.

to our horror, we found we were sandwiched between two rows of seats with families with screaming children. For most of the journey I sat with my fingers in my ears because the high-pitched noise was causing me so much pain. My husband was becoming extremely agitated as he was finding it very difficult to read his paper because the noise was so deafening.

As is usual these days, the parents made no attempt to chastise or control their children in any way, so we were left to suffer in agony for the duration of the flight.

we feel this was no less than a brutal intrusion into our personal domain. what should have been a pleasant flight turned out to be four hours of misery, and we would like the aircraft industry to do something about it.

these days, more and more hotels, cruises and holidays are offered for ‘adults only’, as many companies are aware of the problem and try to provide customers with what they want: peace and quiet. Surely it should be quite easy to segregate those people travelling with children from the rest of us. we would be quite happy to pay more for ‘adults only’ flights. A solution would be to have ‘premium cabins’ at the front for ‘adults only’ for which we would be only too pleased to pay extra. Mr and Mrs GRUNDY,
