Scots star: We’ll ‘consciously uncouple’ from England

SCOTLAND will soon ‘consciously uncouple’ from England, James McAvoy believes.

The Scottish actor, pictured, has declared his support for independence – despite saying it could be damaging to both countries. But borrowing Hollywood colleague Gwyneth Paltrow’s phrase to describe her divorce, he believes devolution will be inevitable – and amicable .

In an interview with the Sunday Times he said many people voted ‘no’ to independence in last year’s referendum because they thought it was ‘too rushed’.

The 36-year-old star of the X Men films added: ‘We’re just heading towards it. I think devolution only really goes one way. I think, when we do get it, as Gwyneth once said, it will be a “conscious uncoupling” rather than a messy break-up.’

He expects full independence within ‘the next decade or so’. Miss Paltrow coined the ‘uncoupling’ phrase when describing her divorce from Chris Martin.
