Lady Mary’s next move? Legging it to India on a gap year
STRIKING glamorous poses in shimmering festive outfits, Michelle Dockery looks every inch the TV star.
But the Downton Abbey actress could soon be adopting a much scruffier style – as she revealed plans to take a grown-up gap year.
Ahead of the ITV drama’s muchanticipated finale on Christmas Day, the 33-year-old said she is looking forward to making the most of her new-found free time.
‘I never had a year out. Now I want to go travelling,’ she told Red magazine. ‘I’ve never been to Australia. I’d love to go to India.
‘There are so many places in Europe I’d like to see. I want to go backpacking. Or interrailing.’
The prospect of living out of a rucksack will undoubtedly be quite a change to playing the impeccably dressed Lady Mary for six series.
However it may also come as something of a relief – as Miss Dockery admitted that being recognised everywhere after the show became a hit left her feeling overwhelmed.
She added that the final day of shooting was incredibly emotional. ‘On my last day of filming, leading up to that final take, I felt sick,’ she said. ‘I didn’t expect to feel so sad. But I think it was a smart move to end where we did.’
The full interview appears in Red’s January issue, on sale December 1.
