30-somethings with £4k savings ...and a love for Dirty Dancing

- Daily Mail Reporter

IF you’re in your early thirties, then the odds are you’ll love the films Dirty Dancing and Pulp Fiction, drive a hatchback and have around £4,300 squirrelled away in savings, research suggests.

A survey of Britons aged 30 to 35 found the average person in this age group had £343 a month of disposable income and typically spent more than three years saving for a house deposit.

They chose to spend their money on dining out twice a month, as well as two nights of socialising and one trip to the cinema.

And when it came to entertainment, 30somethings liked to mix the old and the new. As well as enjoying films such as Dirty Dancing, right, they ranked Queen, the Beatles, Rihanna and Lady Gaga among their favourite musicians, according to the survey of 2,000 people by Nationwide Savings.

One in five said they were not happy with their career, with 55 per cent saying they felt underpaid for the work they did.

And 70 per cent said that when pay day does come around, most of their wages go on rent and bills.

Of those who had managed to save, 30 per cent hoped to spend it on travelling or a long holiday, with 27 per cent saving for a deposit. When asked what car they drove, the most common response was a hatchback such as a Vauxhall Corsa or a Ford Fiesta.
