5 THINGS WE’VE LEARNED IN THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE

-

1 MANCHESTER UNITED striker James Wilson will learn a thing or two from Bobby Zamora in the coming months. England Under 21 star Wilson joined Brighton on loan last week and replaced Zamora in the second half after the 34-year-old had struck the winner against Birmingham. Brighton are now 18 games unbeaten.

2 OLIVER McBURNIE knows how to make an entrance. Having only arrived on loan at Newport from Swansea on Thursday, the 19-year-old striker bagged a 23-minute hat-trick on his debut to beat Luton. What’s more, he started the match on the bench.

3 THE future is finally looking bright for Northampton Town. After months of financial turmoil during which the club’s staff were not paid, the Cobblers were taken over by Kelvin Thomas last week. The club’s plight had galvanised Chris Wilder’s side and their fine form continued with a 2-0 win over Yeovil — their sixth victory in seven games.

4 BURTON will miss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink if the manager leaves for QPR. The Dutchman, who has fashioned the Brewers into surprise League One title contenders, has been allowed to speak with the Championship club. Hasselbaink enhanced his side’s promotion credentials with a thumping 5-1 win over managerless Colchester and Burton fans will hope they are not without a boss this time next week.

5 IT’S the end of the road for Dean Saunders at Chesterfield. The Welsh manager has been sacked after just six months in charge of the League One side after losing 11 of his 20 games. A 4-0 home defeat by Swindon was the final straw.
