Half of us don’t have time to eat breakfast

‘Lethargic and low’

It’s the most important meal of the day.

But up to half of Britons admit to regularly skipping breakfast – twice as many as just three years ago.

Despite warnings that missing out can leave you feeling ‘lethargic and low’, two in five of those surveyed said they didn’t bother to make time for breakfast. that compares with one in five in 2012.

the worst offenders were found in the North East and Northern Ireland, where only around half had breakfast each day.

It was a different story in the East of England and in scotland where nearly 70 per cent found the time to eat every morning, according to the survey of 2,000 adults by oat pro- ducer Flahavan’s. Flahavan’s nutritionist Lucy Jones insisted that eating first thing is good for your health.

‘Breakfast really is an important part of the day, and missing out on a nutritious start to the day can affect your health and your mood,’ she said.

‘A balanced breakfast helps to fuel you through the morning, meaning you feel fuller for longer and are less likely to snack on unhealthy foods throughout the day.’

Research by BBC Good Food magazine earlier this year found 18 to 24year-olds were most likely to forget about having breakfast.

In a survey of 5,000 people 42 per cent of those in this age group confessed to missing it every day.
