Cutting down on salt doesn’t mean you have to compromise on taste

CHECK the labels on these two frozen beef lasagne and you’ll see that while they have identical weights and similar calorie values (492 for Tesco, 453 for Asda), their salt levels are quite different — the Tesco product has 1.3g less salt, around 20 per cent of our daily recommended limit.

It’s not easy to pinpoint why they’re so different — but the effect is likely to be cumulative, reflecting not just seasoning, but the amount of salt in the tomato puree and cheese.
