Minions beat Harry Styles in calendar wars

-

YOU might have thought One Direction’s hold on the charts was unshakeable.

But when it comes to the nation’s favourite calendar, the boyband have surrendered top spot to the Minions.

The movie cartoon characters, pictured, have gone straight to Number One in a list of the most popular 2016 calendars, while Harry Styles and his 1D bandmates fell to fourth after being top for three of the last four years.

Another film calendar, Star Wars: Episode VII, was second with Manchester United moving up three places from 2015 to third in the best-sellers’ chart, produced by publishers Danilo.

Minions, a spin-off from the film Despicable Me, is one of the biggest animated films ever, taking more than £700million worldwide since its spring release.

One Direction’s entry is their first official calendar since Zayn Malik walked out in the spring. Last year they were runners-up to hit film Frozen. The next highest-placed musician on the 2016 calendar chart, in sixth, is Cliff Richard who has been a best seller for 30 years.

A Danilo spokesman said: ‘Bands are not such hot wall items for 2016. It has even surprised us that two blockbusting movies have gone straight to the top.’
