Let Santa bring a life-changer

-

SANTA is on his way! In just over three weeks’ time, the merry man in red will be dropping presents down our chimneys.

So, as we start to consolidate our plans for the festive season, have you thought about what he is likely to stash on his sleigh for you this year?

Will it be the usual suspects — socks, scarves, smelly things and chocolates?

Or have you had a word in his ear to drop off something a little more useful that might actually make a difference to your lifestyle?

If you haven’t already caught Santa’s eye, now is the time to post a letter to his residence at the North Pole — or at least have a quick word with loved ones before they splash out on something you don’t really want!

Why not suggest, instead, that this time they all club together to help you buy an item that will support your mobility and independence in the years ahead?

Mobility companies tend to see a marked uplift in inquiries about adaptations in the New Year, after families have had a Christmas catch-up focusing on a loved one’s safety and comfort. But if you pre-empt their discussions and ask them to think ‘mobility’ now, it could save money all round.

There are smaller items that could be popped in your stocking, such as a bath bench, bathing cushion, rollator or a big-button telephone.

And if you already have a mobility scooter, the latest high-visibility accessories could ensure that you are seen by motorists, should you find yourself on the move as daylight fades.

Or by putting their heads together, they could even help you buy a larger adaptation that Santa might just about be able to squeeze onto his sleigh. Whichever one you have in mind, what a difference it could make in 2016!

Never mind the chimney! He’d rather glide down your stairlift

FORGET about making Santa struggle down the chimney — give him a ride on your new stairlift instead! A modern stairlift glides up and down quietly and smoothly, so nobody will hear.

And it is likely to prove ultra-useful, for being able to move between floors at will or take washing and deliveries upstairs.

No wonder most people who have one installed wish they had done so sooner.

It will make the home safer and leaves you with energy to do other things.

You don’t have to move to a ground-floor apartment, or build another bathroom so that you can live downstairs. And above all, it puts your loved ones’ minds at rest.

As with most mobility items, getting the right type is vital. For example, if you suffer from hip or knee problems, a perch or saddle

seat might be the best option, as this requires less bending at the hip or knee to use it.

Or go for a neat home lift instead — they are now far more affordable and are designed to be self-supporting, so won’t require any structural changes to your home.

Greet Christmas morning in a luxurious adjustable bed

IMAGINE waking up early on Christmas morning in an adjustable bed. At the press of a button you’ll be sitting up ready for a festive breakfast — and a cheery hello to any excited grandchildren that are staying.

Adjustable beds offer welcome positional relief from aches and pains, and will help you find that sweet spot where you can enjoy the best night’s rest.

They come in singles and king-size (where each side is independently operated) and are ideal for reading, watching television, and getting in and out of bed with ease.

Wishing you some happy and stylish reclining in 2016

IF SANTA comes up trumps and says you deserve a riser recliner chair, you can look forward to a far more comfortable 2016.

These stylish chairs can be fitted to your exact measurements to give support where it is needed most. With the seat, armrests, footrest and headrest just where they should be, your muscles and joints can fully relax as you find positional relief from pain.

This can be especially helpful for those with such health conditions as arthritis, sciatica, back pain, hip pain, varicose veins and poor circulation. What’s more, the riser function takes the strain off weaker arms and legs by raising you smoothly to your feet or easing you down into the welcoming arms of the chair.

And some riser recliner chairs come with a built-in massage system for a therapeutic touch that’s sheer bliss. So come on Santa, bring us something useful this time!
