Fleetwood to cash in if Vardy is sold
FLEETWOOD TOWN are poised to benefit if Leicester City sell Jamie Vardy, due to a 25 per cent sell-on clause they negotiated when selling the striker in 2012. Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool are thought to be considering bidding for Vardy following his record-breaking scoring exploits, and January might present Leicester with a conundrum should one of the Premier League’s top clubs bid. Leicester are already in a strong position, with Vardy committed to a contract worth £40,000 per week until 2018. And the club are unwilling to let Vardy leave without a fight, so an improved contract is also in the pipeline. Internal discussions about the new deal have taken place, but the details still need to go through the club’s Thai owners. If a pay rise is agreed, Leicester might not even contemplate offers close to £30million given the England forward’s importance to Claudio Ranieri’s side. Should a transfer happen at that figure though, Sportsmail understands League One Fleetwood would net a bumper £7.25m, as they are due a quarter of any transfer fee for Vardy above the £1m Leicester paid for him. Should Vardy move for £20m, Fleetwood are still on course to bank £4.75m. Whether that happens is far from clear. Vardy has praised team-mates for helping him find the best form of his career, scoring in 11 successive Premier League games to break Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record. And yet Vardy (left), who turns 29 next month, may decide to take this chance to test his talent at a club challenging for the title or playing in the Champions
League.
