Dithering Dave
hOW much longer are tory backbenchers going to put up with a leader who cannot, or will not, lead? With a good majority, David Cameron has a golden opportunity to take a long-term view and do what is right for this country. But he’s a political lightweight, thinking no farther than abandoning ship at the next election. he’s a pushover for any lobby of vested interests.
he has funked the heathrow expansion decision, which is desperately needed. he has dropped legislation to protect us from greedy bankers. he has failed even to attempt to negotiate real changes in our relationship with europe.
he has failed to repeal the human rights Act. he has failed to reduce immigration by introducing an Australian-style points system or tightening the benefits rules. he has failed to reduce costs for small business.
he took the short-term view and joined the French, russians and Americans in their fudged and ineffective bombing of Syria. he has failed to cut government expenditure enough and our debt is still growing.
he has maintained generous overseas aid while our own flood defences are inadequate. he has failed to acknowledge that the NhS is unmanageable and unsustainable without a partnership with the private sector.
he has failed to make a bonfire of the quangos. he supports white elephant projects such as hS2 which we don’t need and can’t afford.
he has failed to progress a new law to make junk food healthier to tackle obesity.
he displays not a vestige of vision, leadership, initiative or original thinking. One cannot help but be despondent about the future of Britain with this vacuum at the top.
it is no real comfort to see that there are no budding statesmen in the labour Party, either, or that the Americans have the same problem.
is there no tory backbench concern at this continual drift and lack of purpose and achievement? Do all our politicians deserve the poor regard in which they are now held?
