Flood threat to Clooney’s £10m riverside home

- By Jaya Narain

THEY have spent 18 months turning their £10million riverside estate into a dream home.

But last night George Clooney and his wife Amal found their 1 th century Grade II listed mansion under threat from floods.

Heavy rain caused the Thames to burst its banks, inundating part of the estate at Sonning, on the Oxfordshire-Berkshire border.

More rain is forecast today and the Environment Agency has warned of serious risk of flooding along a large stretch of the river.

Actor Clooney, 54, and his human rights lawyer wife, 3 , bought the property following their mar- riage in 2014. On a bend in the Thames at a spot popular with boaters and tourists, it has nine bedrooms, eight bathrooms, six reception rooms, a media room, a steam room, a library, a gym and an outdoor pool.

But neighbours have complained about ‘noisy and ugly’ construction work to build a cinema room and pool house, and to install CCTV cameras.

The Clooneys are not the only public figures whose homes are under threat.

Neighbours in Sonning include Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and Home Secretary Theresa May. Illusionist Uri Geller also lives in the village but his home, which is on the market for £15million, is on a hill.

Twenty miles away, the Duchess of Cambridge’s parents are among those nervously keeping an eye on the River Pang after warnings it could burst its banks.

Carole and Michael Middleton live in a £ million mansion in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

The Environment Agency issued a flood alert for the Pang, which flows through Bucklebury to join the Thames at Pangbourne.
