Will Britain be better off in or out of Europe?

-

AT LAST, the Daily Mail is saying what the majority of the country are thinking: who will speak for England? We don’t want to be run from Brussels. This great country has been wrecked by successive governments telling us what is right for us, but not listening when we say: ‘No, thank you.’ They ignore the working classes and listen only to the banks, big business, migrants, students, the Greens and the BBC. What about the pensioners who paid their taxes and National Insurance only to find they can’t claim a pension until they’re too old to enjoy it? What about the patients waiting weeks for a doctor’s or hospital appointment? What about the young families still paying off student loans at 30-plus and having to rent a property because they will never have the money to buy? Where are the voices shouting that we can’t take any more migrants, not because we’re racist, but because we simply can’t afford them. Let’s have our country back.

PAT ROLAND, Birmingham. AMONg the many considerations, we must all take into account when making our decision on ‘in’ or ‘out’ of the eU, is whether returning a large degree of control to the UK government is good for Britain. Are they likely to do any better than within the constraints of the eU? look back over the past, say, 70 years where decisions have been, and still are, within the power of the UK government alone. Where has that got us? Probably the worst infrastructure (roads, railways and airports) in europe, an NHS creaking at the seams, a manufacturing industry that is still declining and defence cut beyond safe limits. there has been poor government decision-making for decades. Don’t assume the decision should depend on the idea that we’ll get better government by relying purely on those within our own political arena.

PETER CORNICK, Emsworth, Hants.
