EDDIE REDMAYNE, who will join James Corden, Gordon Ramsay and Chris O’Connor — the UK Consul General — when they fly the flag at the Film is GREAT bash in West Hollywood tonight to honour the 20-plus British Oscar nominees. Guests will sip a special Sipsmith gin cocktail and nibble treats prepared by Ramsay. It’s a fun annual event and all the movie world Brits in LA turn up to hob-nob and party. It used to be held in the garden of the consul general’s residence, but the sod was always soft because of rain and the ladies got their high heels suck in the grass. People used to think women were toppling over on the lawn because of over-refreshment, but really, the grass was to blame. IDRIS ELBA, who is nominated in tomorrow’s Film Independent Spirit Awards, which take place under a mammoth marquee erected on the beach at Santa Monica. He’s in the best supporting category for Beasts Of No Nation. I watched the film for a third time yesterday and it truly is a great performance. I think that Oscar voters just didn’t watch it. Elba’s rivals include War And Peace star Paul Dano, who is nominated for the Beach Boys film Love & Mercy. ANNA-JANE Casey, Laura Pitt-Pulford, David Durham, Louis Maskell, Mark Meadows, Luke Dale, Nicola Sloane and Moyo Akande, who join star Clare Burt in a musical based on Paul Gallico’s Flowers For Mrs Harris by Richard taylor and Rachel Wagstaff. Daniel Evans directs at the Crucible, Sheffield from May 18. HALEY FLAHERTY (the longtime co-star of musical Matilda), who will play Tooley, an American hippie, opposite Patricia Hodge and Steven Pacey, in a musical version of Travels With My Aunt, which has been adapted by George Stiles, Anthony Drewe, Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman.
