HAVING taken an 11-year career break to raise two children, DS Marcella Backland (Anna Friel) returns to the Metropolitan Police when a serial killer apparently resurfaces in this intriguingly noirish eightpart drama. The case of the Grove Park murders — three people, killed in their homes — was the last Marcella worked on before she left to focus on family, and the trail went cold. Now, 11 years later, it seems the killer has added two more victims to his horrific tally — or is a copycat at large? Devastated over the sudden collapse of her 15-year marriage, Marcella throws herself into work, and soon finds her spiky singlemindedness isolating her from her colleagues — but is she strong enough to cope alone?
