BEDS AND CHAIRS: COMFY AS GOLDILOCKS

-

DO YOU have difficulty sitting or getting up from a chair — or do you suffer chronic pain and need to change your sitting position to feel more comfortable? Then you would probably benefit from a riser recliner chair this spring. But choosing one that is the right size for you is vital. If your chair is too high, you won’t be able to touch the floor and this will put pressure on your back. Too short and the backs of your thighs could start to ache. Too tight and you will feel restricted. And if the seat is too deep you won’t be able to sit with your back fully supported. To be as comfortable as Goldilocks, you should be able to put your feet flat on the floor, with your thighs level and bottom right at the back of the chair. And your arms should be supported underneath your elbows. Try a chair for at least an hour. Check that it has extra support for your lower back and head and that the leg rest supports your whole leg down to your heel at the same height as the seat. It’s worth getting expert advice to ensure that it is just right.

YOU might also want to consider an electric adjustable bed. This could boost comfort by allowing you to adjust your position at night, while raising the headrest will help you to read or watch TV more comfortably and get up and out of bed with considerably less strain.
