THE husband of Loose Women panellist Saira Khan yesterday said he was left ‘heartbroken’ by her suggestion he should have an affair as she no longer wanted to have sex with him.

Steven Hyde appeared on the show with his wife to speak for the first time about her revelation that she had lost her libido and had urged him to look elsewhere.

Amid the furore of her confession, the former Apprentice finalist admitted her husband’s first words to her following her comments were ‘what have you done?’

Mr Hyde, 51, told viewers he would never want to have an open relationship and felt saddened by 46-year- old Miss Khan’s comments. The pair have been married for 11 years and have two children, Amara, five, and son Zac, seven.

He said: ‘To be honest I was pretty devastated for her really, to think that she would even think, that she needed to say something like that to me, because it’s something that I would never contemplate doing and never think about doing.

‘The idea for me, of what people talk about as an open relationship is, well, it’s just not for me, it’s nonsense.

‘So I felt really troubled, I felt heartbroken that she had got to such a point really, such a low point that she felt the need to say something like that.’

During Wednesday’s ITV show, Miss Khan told fellow panellists: ‘We used to have a fantastic sex life. I still love my husband, we cuddle and it’s lovely. But I’m not interested [in sex]. I don’t want to. I’ve lost the desire and I find myself making excuses from around 6pm.’ She said she had employed numerous tactics to avoid his advances before finally suggesting he find satisfaction elsewhere.

Asked by host Andrea McLean on Friday’s show if he thought it was a generous offer or made him wonder if his wife really knew him, Mr Hyde replied: ‘Little bit of both. I don’t think that she needed to say that.’

After Miss Khan rejoined the panel in tears, he said: ‘I adore her, she’s fantastic, she’s my best friend, there’s nothing happening to our relationship at all.’

Miss Khan admitted to relief, saying: ‘I feel like a heavy burden has been lifted.’ She had received thousands of supportive emails from as far afield as America and Germany after Wednesday’s show.
