Summer dressing to flatter all figures

-

WE ALL have a body part we’re not too keen on. But with a bit of clever dressing, even your most disliked bits can become your summer fashion assets . . .

AMAZING ARMS

IF YOU don’t like your arms, just make sure you wear a longer sleeve, especially if your top or dress is tight in the body.

The most flattering sleeves are threequarter length.

They conceal problem areas above the elbow, while still showing skin and hitting the arm at its slimmest point.

Your arms will look more slender draped in soft, lightweight fabrics, so go for chiffon or silk in a kimono style.

Avoid frills or ruffles, which only add volume and bulk. Cap sleeves, which barely cover the shoulders, only highlight the upper arms, which can be unflattering.

Wear chunky bracelets to emphasise your lovely shapely wrists — we all have them!

LOVELY LEGS

MAXIS are a fail-safe option, as they cover up your legs, but also help to make your body appear longer. An empire line is the most flattering style.

Culottes and longer shorts can be a great alternative to short skirts. They sit higher on the waist, creating the illusion of longer legs, and are comfortable to wear. Knee- length prom or fit-andflare dresses are a great option for summer events — they’re really flattering over your thighs and knees, but still show off your legs.

On chillier summer days, a pair of printed trousers or harem pants are your best friend. If you’re an apple or pear shape, they can help to flatter your tummy and hips, while slimming the legs as they taper towards your ankles.

TRIM TUMMY

TRY a long, sleeveless tailored jacket. Layered over skinny jeans and T-shirts, it will effortlessly hide any lumps and bumps.

High-waisted full skirts are perfect if you are self-conscious about your tummy, as they sit on your natural waist and so conceal a less-than-svelte stomach. Peplum tops and dresses are great for skimming over the stomach, while a sweetheart neckline draws attention upwards.

Choose bold accessories to highlight your assets — and distract attention from any problem areas.

Colourful statement earrings will draw the eye upwards away from your middle, while necklaces highlight your collarbone.
